In 2023 João joined the University’s research group working working for the National Sustainable Mobility Centre (MOST) that aims to make the Italian mobility system 'greener' as a whole and more 'digital' in its management with the financial support from the European Union. As part of the team that focuses on urban mobility, he collaborates with other researchers on the study of smart urban mobility management and governance
Short Biography
In Dec. 2024, João joined the University of Palermo's research unit that is involved in the two-year National Research Project Mapping the New Spatial Inequalities within Southern European Cities that aims to discover and represent the new forms of spatial inequalities emerging within large cities in Southern Europe
Since Sep. 2023, João is a teacher in the BSc. Course Building Engineering, Innovation and Retrofitting (L-23) at the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo
Since Feb. 2022, João is a teacher in the MSc. Course Architecture for the Sustainable Design of the Built Environment (LM-4) at the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo
In Nov. 2021, João became responsible for managing the secretariat and communication of the European Urban Research Association (EURA), an international network of urban scholars that since 1997 aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in urban related issues
In Sep. 2021, João was awarded for his Ph.D in Urban Planning at the University of Palermo. His doctoral project address the European Urban Agenda at the margins of Europe
During his Ph.D, João focused on the case of the city of Porto (Portugal), where he spent a period as visiting Ph.D student at the Research Centre for Territory, Transports and Environment (CITTA), Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto
In Oct. 2017, João was granted a scholarship to carry out a doctoral programme at the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo
In Jun. 2016, João graduated (MSc.) in Civil Engineering (Urbanism and Transport) from the NOVA School of Science and Technology, Lisbon (Portugal)
